Museums Advancing Racial Justice (MARJ) was a multi-day conference presented in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and the Minnesota Science Museum as part of the ongoing work around the Race: Are We So Different? exhibit. The event brought together museum professionals, scholars, and community leaders to explore how cultural institutions can more effectively advance racial equity.

I led conference management for the entire program, overseeing logistics, coordinating speaker materials and supplies, and planning room layouts at the Minnesota Science Museum. I paid close attention to accessibility and guest needs throughout the event, incorporating live captioning, designing thoughtful room flow, and sourcing food from diverse local caterers with careful consideration for allergies and dietary restrictions. One of the most meaningful compliments came from a vegan attendee who told me she had never felt so seen and hadn’t realized it was possible to feel that way at a professional gathering.

In addition to daytime programming, I produced an opening night party for donors and participants, as well as a closing happy hour that created space for reflection and connection. I also managed transportation and vendor coordination to ensure a seamless guest experience. It was an honor to contribute to such an intentional, purpose-driven event.
